Advertising Disclaimer

Published to Blog on 2 Apr 2007

As you can plainly see I make use of various forms of advertising on this site. In some cases I may be paid for clickthroughs or actions taken by you on those sites (sign ups, ordering products, etc.).

I do not have an advertising affiliation with every product, site, or service that I write about or link to from this site. In fact, most of them I do not. I normally write about stuff that I use and recommend, whether I am affiliated with the product/service/site or not. I will not write a post for the sole purpose of including advertising links in it.

Banner Ads
Banner ads on this site are either provided through my own advertising network, AdBlendr, or through Google Adsense or other affiliations like Amazon.

Banner ads provided through my ad service, AdBlendr, are used primarily at the top of pages and are not marked as Google or Amazon ads. I do endorse and recommend these products and services because I handpick each advertisement. I either use, have used, have thoroughly researched, or think highly of each of the products/services that I advertise in this manner.

Ads provided by Google are clearly marked as such and are displayed using a context-sensitive approach - they match the theme of the site, page or post. While most of these ads are appropriate for the context of the page, they are supplied by Google without my input so I cannot endorse the products or services they advertise.

Those provided by Amazon are clearly marked as such and display items from a specific Amazon category that are appropriate to the theme of this site. The products advertised are chosen by Amazon without my input so I cannot endorse them.

RSS Ads
RSS ads used by this site are provided through my ad service, AdBlendr. I do endorse and recommend these products and services because I handpick each advertisement. I either use, have used, have thoroughly researched, or think highly of each of the products/services that I advertise in this manner.

Text Ads
Text Ads on this site are primarily provided through Google Adsense and are clearly marked as such. They are displayed using a context-sensitive approach - they match the theme of the site, page or post. While most of these ads are appropriate for the context of the page, they are provided by Google without my input so I cannot endorse the products or services they advertise.

In-Post Links
In some posts I may provide links to books at Amazon or to other sites, products, or services. In the case of Amazon books I will always pass my affiliate ID to Amazon so that I will make commissions on anything you may purchase. In the case of other links, if I have an advertising affiliation with them I will pass my affiliate id along with the link. I will not create a post solely for the purpose of passing on a sponsored link.

Sidebar Links
This site’s sidebar may contain links and other sidebar gadgets that point to Technorati, BlogShares, LinkedIn and other services and special events. I do not maintain any advertising affiliations with these services or events in any way. They are merely services that I use and/or recommend. I am an employee of Telligent, which is the creator of BlogMailr. BlogMailr is a free service and I do not receive any advertising revenue, bonuses, or raises, or any other kind of monetary or non-monetary value from driving traffic to the site. I like and use BlogMailr and highly recommend it. As for the WhatIWantMost sidebar gadget, see the DanHounshell.com, Digger Solutions, WhatIWantMost, and AdBlendr section.

Telligent, Community Server, BlogMailr, CodeSmith, and JobBurner
I am an employee of Telligent Systems, Inc. Community Server is a product developed, distributed and licensed by Telligent Systems. BlogMailr is a site developed and operated by Telligent Systems. CodeSmith and JobBurner (and other Telligent properties) are entities owned, licensed, or otherwise affiliated with Telligent Systems. Any mention of Telligent or any of the other entities is a shameless plug of my employer and should be viewed as such. Of course I highly recommend anything Telligent touches.

DanHounshell.com, Digger Solutions, WhatIWantMost, and AdBlendr
Digger Solutions was formerly a commercial venture where I distributed open source products: Intranet Open Source, Newsletter Open Source, and NOS.NET, along with commercial add-ons to support them. Digger Solutions is no longer a commercial venture, though I still offer the software with no warranties at another blog on this site. WhatIWantMost.com and AdBlendr are both sites I developed and described thoroughly in this blog. Any mention of this site, Digger Solutions, WhatIWantMost, or AdBlendr is a shameless plug in an attempt to either promote the site or myself to convince you that I am some type of expert and not just a mediocre hack.

I have added a permanent link on the main navigation area of the site that links to this disclosure. I will update this document as changes are made to the site and my advertising policies.
