The secrets to long life

Published to Blog on 18 Dec 2006

The quote of the day on my Google homepage is:

“My Grandmother is over eighty and still doesn’t need glasses. Drinks right out of the bottle.”
- Henny Youngman

This reminds me of my great-grandmother that lived to 100+ and passed away a few years ago. She always said that the secret to her long life was that she had one smoke and one drink every night. She smoked one cigarette (or cigar in her earlier years) and drank one beer every evening well into her nineties.

I gave up cigarettes years ago, though I do smoke about 6-12 cigars a year. And these days I only drink about 2-3 beers a week. Sounds like I need to step it up and get with the program!
