Check out this pointedly prolific prose from The Spurious Pundit (via a post on Scott Hanselman's Blog - ComputerZen.com ) Picture Hanging In it, the author describes how new managers can get into trouble by giving junior developers what they think are “simple” tasks without all the information they may need. I remember by first couple of tours of being a first level manager and the story is right on the money. I thought that once I left the Army and started dealing with intelligent people...
If you are like me and didn't get that Xbox you wanted for Christmas, you probably have been searching high and low for one since. After searching EVERY local store this week that might even carry video game hardware and checking all the major online retailers that I could think of (Walmart, Amazon, Sears, EBGames, etc.) I came up with a big fat nothing. I even thought for a brief second about Ebay, but dismissed that quickly since the prices are skyrocketing there because they are not available...
The snow has finally stopped - a little more than 24 hours after it started. The damage - somewhere between 18 - 24 inches of snow. Additionally our county has a level 3 snow emergency! Pretty impressive sounding, huh? Just means that only emergency vehicles are allowed on the roads. Violaters can be ticketed, fined, or jailed. We're hoping they cancel that soon, we still need to finish some Christmas shopping. Another picture for you. My porch is about 2 feet above ground level - it will give you...
We're supposed to get 8 to 12 inches of snow today. It started about 6:30 AM this morning and it is not coming down really heavy, just steady. This picture was taken about 7:30 AM right after the snow had started. The white specks are indeed snowflakes - they were illuminated by the flash. This picture was taken about 11:00 AM - 3.5 hours after the first one. You can see that it is really starting to pile up. If you look closely you'll see that there is supposed to be an intersection in the middle...
I was finishing up development for a project we are wrapping up today and one of the last things I was working on was a fairly simple administrative page (so I thought!). On this page I had two lists of documents that are associated with a product. The goal of the page is to indicate which of the associated documents are to be displayed on the product's detail page and in what order they are to be displayed. The first list displayed those shown on the detail page and the second list displayed those...
A few days ago I was in a Counting Crows mood and I was listening to my library of their songs. There's nothing like 60 Counting Crows songs in a row to make you reflect upon life, love and all that crap. Anyway, while enjoying I jotted down a few memorable lyrics: sunsets don't have much of a finish hang your hopes on rusted out hinges she's been crying; I've been drinking One last note: if I hear U2's “Vertigo” one more time on MusicMatch radio (or on any radio for that matter) I think...
I thought I would share something that I keep at the bottom of my inbox. It's always there if I need to put a smile on my face. I got this message on AIM from a co-worker way back in September of 2001: mark: hey? dan: what's up mark: I think that you gave me whatever you have mark: I started getting dick last night mark: feels like sinus I'm pretty sure he meant “sick“ instead of “dick“, but it's definitely much funnier the way it was sent. Hope you enjoy it as much as I have...
I wish I could say I've never been involved it a project like this, but we all know better... http://ianwhite.is-a-geek.net/PermaLink.aspx?guid=0ac66f08-5eac-4796-a881-83fc12d5061f from Ian White Share this post: email it! | bookmark it! | digg it! | kick it! | live it!
I apologize to my two fans for not posting regularly over the past couple of weeks. Sadly, I hear from them that my posts are the only thing that keeps them going. Well part of the problem is laziness - on my part that is. But I really have been busy. I have been in the midst of finishing up a nice project over the last few weeks - I will post a link once it is live. Fortunately for me, but unfortunately for the rest of the team, the Thanksgiving holiday and week-long vacation fell directly in the...
